It’s not a work-shy project, it’s like making a mini quilt but it was lots of fun. The most difficult bit is definitely choosing the fabrics.
Here’s the back:
oy! who’s that rummaging in me pilllow back!
i LOVE this back fabric and i have been hoarding the fat quarter i bought of this on supersale a year or two ago. It’s from cloud 9 and so soft and lovely. (The back of the pillow is quilted too).
The book is one we borrowed from the library at school. Mummies in the Morning. Sylvs has been asking about Egypt and Mummies and Pyramids a lot lately so this one is perfect.
finally found something to do with the bright pink silk i found at a rummage sale:
this pattern is a free download from colette patterns (a portland-based indie design company). the silk has the perfect drape and it was no problemo to sew up. there’s french seams down the sides and the neckline and armholes are bound with bias so it’s pretty on the inside too. i got lazy with this and used a packaged bias tape which is heavier than the silk and so it doesn’t sit perfectly, but i do like the happy pinks together! i lengthened the shirt by 2″ and have plans to make a tunic and perhaps even dress length. i’d also like to play around with omitting the centre pleat and adding some smocking around the waist area.
i liked it so much that i made another one out of some lovely japanese double-gauze (pics of it to come when it’s not so rainy!)
